Rumbling emanated the center of the abomasnow’s chest as he plodded down the street. Littering the small section of the lower district were other Pokémon, watching dutifully as excited, costumed children scattered through the neighborhood—yelling and laughing as they marched door to door with the intent of raking in biggest of candy hauls. Rufus, however, had never been relegated to babysitter.[break][break]

Beside him, his trainer watched on and sensed his uncertainty. Tiny and hardly coming up to his middle, Calla nudged him with an elbow. “Hey, it’s not so bad. Theyre all pretty thrilled to see such a big witch’s familiar.” It was true—complimentary to her dress, striped tights, and wide-brimmed hat, the big ol’ abomasnow was sporting a clip on pair of meowth ears.[break][break]

More than one curious child had patted him, and eventually he became a big fuzzy vehicle, toting them around on his shoulders despite his intimidating size. A big softie, after all—though keen to keep any outside trouble at bay. If only for the sake of the kiddos arguing over who got a piggyback ride next.

Missy was perplexed. How could human mothers let their young roam freely out of their pouch? Were they not worried about them? What if some evil Lycanroc decided to turn them into dinner?

According to her trainer, this was a common ritual among humans. Still, Missy kept a close eye on the little ones as they went from lair to lair collecting sweet treats. Her baby Kangaskhan was dressed up for spooky season too, wearing a white ghost sheet.

Little hands tug at his mane. Little mouths gawk and shriek with delight. Little feet nudge his black flank from their seat upon his back. But Beau doesn't mind – this is simply the sort of thing that children do. [break][break]

He thinks that there is some sticky bit of candy stuck in his fur now, but he simply huffs and shakes his head with a dismissive snort. The large hand of a much more familiar human tries to pull it free, and all it does is earn him a light nip to his calloused fingers, [break][break]

But the children just laugh and giggle in delight at the bull's defiance, and Beau huffs again, and this time the sound is the closest approximation to a laugh that the Pokemon can manage. His orange-clad trainer just rubs the back of his neck with all the sheepishness of a scolded child as they make their way to the next house with their pack of trick-or-treaters in tow. It is a good night, Beau thinks. Dark eyes and spiraling horns are ready to catch whatever miscreant would spoil such sport, but the bull thinks that, for once, he would rather not have to put them to use.

Lurking in the bushes ahead of a group of trick or treaters was a trio of teenagers. Donning skeletal warrior costumes, the three teens stifled their chortles, as best as they could. Their aim was simple: scare the kids off, and take whatever candy they left behind.

As they got themselves into position, a Ceruledge emerged from the Phantom Force. Spectral fire blades flared up, as the black knight glowered menacingly at the trio. This was more than enough to cause them to scream in terror, and flee from their hiding spot for dear life.

As the children saw the teenagers flee, they had questions. Some were hesitant to take the path, until Thomas assured them that his friend was keeping them safe. When a Ceruledge stepped out of the bushes calmly, Thomas, dressed as a vampire, met the Ghost-type in the middle. "That easy, eh? Amateurs.", Thomas scoffed.

"Come on, kids, the way ahead is clear!", Thomas called out to the group of trick or treaters.

Some might say Thomas' methods were too harsh. Had those boys successfully jumped the group, Thomas would've made it the worst night of their life. They got off easy with Mordred.

A quiet fall evening, the moon high with leaves flitting across the ground against the chilled breezes. Sweet scents lofted through the air, candied apples, marshmallows, chocolate, and the laughter of all of the kids enjoying their fun and their sweets could be heard by all. There were snickers thought that went along with it, hidden within the darkness of the trees. Snickering troublemakers that were waiting for their next easy grab to walk by to snatch some candy and other goodies.[break][break]
Within those same trees, a monster lurked. Sniffing the air, finding their scents, and stalking through the tree trunks. There was a snapped branch, the groaning of a tree's weight being moved, a flash of something green in the trees? Or something... bright blood red... Then, lumbering towards them, a massive figure bellowed and roared, their screams swallowed by the sound as they ran in fear from the monster that had found them. And the next set of trick or treaters to walk by went unharmed, the monster was satiated.[break][break]
"What a monster you are, Higumei," a quiet voice whispered within a smile, soft hands splayed along the bear's giant maw.[break]
"Only when it's called for, huh?"

The angelic, yet piercing, high pitched giggles stuck out from the rather dull buzz of the bustling street. Eva’s joined in on her laughter, watching in amusement as 6 children hung from the unamused Machamp’s muscular arms. They swung amongst them like monkey bars, giggling and kicking. Syah walked calmly down the sidewalk towards the next house the Trick or Treaters would terrorize with their adorable enthusiasm. The Machamp didn’t seem phased, but Eva knew Syah better than that. The piercing stare forward into nothingness was a tell tale sign she was forcefully holding back a frustrated outburst. She was so patient, and Eva appreciated it. As the children leapt from the Machamp’s arms to run up the driveway, Eva gave the fighting-type a hardy pat on the back, “Not too much longer, I promise.”

for every hyperactive trick-or-treater looking to reap the benefits of the generous souls offering their share of goodies ranging from small chewables to large bars of sugar-filled greatness, surely there's a heinous hooligan -- mainly in the form of a slightly older, mischievous kid, perhaps a pre-teen even -- looking to try and sabotage their experience. amongst the crowds of supervised tots with candy bags in hands, there stood some suspicious fellows sporting bags of their own, but not of any sweet delicacies. rather, weapons of mass destruction in the form of eggs and toilet tissue rolls filled their bags.[break][break]

cue the child protective services, courtesy of a nidoking donning a radiant blue hide, for he and his trainer, one silverio eligio delfino, are out in support of the kids above all else. one devious delinquent in particular sought to swipe one poor unsuspecting child's candy bag, only to be met with a massive steel-like tail, knocking them back by several feet, much to the delight of other children. other ruffians are found tossing loose toilet tissue rolls around, enveloping trees and other structures in white, but a fierce roar from the rough-and-tough nidoking would scare them away.[break][break]

seeing this, some kids in their immediate vicinity dared to approach the beast, perhaps under the impression that it was just an older kid in a monstrous costume that almost looks too real. the kids proceed to invest their enjoyment running circles around the shiny pokémon.[break][break]

perhaps 'ring around the rosy' was never any more fun than what it appears to be now, except that no one other than the aforementioned thugs would be falling down here today.

a police cap and a collar constitutes the mabosstiff's halloween costume. it does both the celebration of the festivities and the indication of his role for the night.

walking down the streets of slateport, it patrols to monitor the neighborhood in search for offenders of the city's peace. they were tasked to keep things safe for the children enjoying the brief moment of quiet, and each pokemon recruited intends it to stay that way.

the mabosstiff finds itself on a shadier part of the street, walking with children that happen to wander way to close to the areas hidden from plain view.

intimidate does the trick. with only a few seconds to do the act before being caught, those that planned to be too into their tricks are unable to act it out in the presence of a pokemon that can easily spoil their delusions.
